Four persons die, over 270 hospitalized after intoxication with mushrooms in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The number of intoxications with mushrooms has increased significantly in the last two weeks, with 270 cases registered, of which four deaths.  

According to data presented by the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), the last mass intoxication case took place on 25 November. A man from the Tabora village, central Orhei district, gathered mushrooms in the wood and cooked them at supper for his family, made up of six persons, as well as for a guest from a neighbour village. All these people needed medical assistance.    

Another case with the affecting of five persons from a family was recorded in the central Telenesti district. Also, cases of mass intoxication were registered in the districts of Orhei, Floresti, Edinet and Criuleni.  

ANSP specialists reiterate that the first clinical symptoms can appear in two hours after the consumption of mushrooms, through the appearance of: nausea, diarrhea, excessive transpiration, general weakness, abdominal pains. In six hours, headache, dizziness and worsening of the state of vomit, loss of consciousness, hallucinations and even coma can appear.

The symptoms of intoxications with mushrooms vary depending on the type of mushrooms, more exactly the toxin contained in them and the duration of the incubation period.
