International Organization for Migration donates consignment of COVID-19 protective equipment to Moldova's Border Police

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) today provided 130,000 protective masks, 100,000 nitrile gloves and 16 thermo-scanners to employees of the Border Police. The sum of the donation is 15,000 euros.
The donation action took place within the project, Improving Moldova’s national response to COVID-19 crisis and is aimed at improving the institutional capacities, ensuring the management of the control of preventing the infections through optimizing the access to individual protective equipment, non-medical consumables, equipment for detecting fever, as well as to relevant medical devices for rescuing the live against the COVID-19 infection.
„IOM has been by our side since the beginning of the pandemic and continuously supports in implementing the special measures of control at the crossing of the state border. The today’s donation, as well as all earlier received protective equipment is much more than necessary for the first-line border policemen. They are the ones who run the risk of being infected and in this respect, we must provide them with protection, endowing them with masks, gloves and disinfectants,’’ the head of the Border Police, Corneliu Groza, said.
IOM, in coordination with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), launched a four-year project with the general goal of contributing to Moldova’s efforts in the enforcement of the emergency plan of response to COVID-19, in order to cease the subsequent transmission of the COVID-19 infection and attenuate the impact of its hotbed in Moldova.
