Declaration on 5+2 format negotiations in process of Transnistrian conflict settlement adopted in Tirana

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - The participants in the 27th meeting of the council of foreign affairs ministers of OSCE, which ended on 4 December, adopted, by consensus, the Declaration on the process of negotiations in the 5+2 format on the Transnistrian settlement, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
In particular, the foreign affairs ministers of the participating countries urged the sides to boost the interaction, in order to overcome the challenges dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, foster the dialogue and continuous efforts for the protection of human rights in Moldova’s Transnistrian region, including in order to quickly reestablish the free movement between the two banks of Dniester.
The foreign affairs ministers of the OSCE participating countries reiterated the determination to identify, by peaceful means, a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict, based on Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, with the adoption of a special status for the Transnistrian region. In the context, the ministers stressed the importance of the 5+2 format of talks and urged the actors involved to organize a meeting in the concerned format, focused on results, as soon as possible in 2021.
During speeches, the European Union and the member states, the United Kingdom and the United States showed solidarity with Moldova, sharing the concerns dealing with the alarming situation as to the infringement of the fundamental human rights and freedoms in the Transnistrian region. The international partners reiterated their willingness to contribute to the identification of a comprehensive, peaceful and sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict, with the observance of the sovereignty and territorial integrity, within its borders recognized internationally. In the context, USA and Romania reiterated the need to finish the process of withdrawal of the foreign troops and ammunitions from Moldova, in line with the commitments taken by Russia within OSCE.
