Moldova makes request to COVAX platform for vaccine against COVID-19

Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) has informed that today it submitted to the COVAX platform a request for the vaccine against COVID-19.
According to MSMPS, the request was compiled following discussions with specialists in the sector and decision-makers, in cooperation with international partners (World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF) and was filled in, in order to ensure the delivery of the vaccine in the best conditions and determine the mechanisms of organization of immunization services.
The health ministry informs that, proceeding from the fact that the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, through the COVAX platforms, provides the covering of 20 per cent of the country’s residents for free, the following target groups were identified: the medical sector employees; adults older than 65 years and will comorbidities; beneficiaries of the temporary or long-term placement centres; social sector employees; the education field employees and the ones of the security providing bodies. Subsequently, according to the availability of vaccine, other groups of residents will be vaccinated too, who are also extremely important to be protected.
Moldova joined COVAX in May 2020, through the letter of intent signed by MSMPS.
Russia, the United Kingdom and China have already started campaigns of vaccination against COVID-19.
