Moldovan Constitutional Court suspends law on switching of Republican Stadium to state property

Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Constitutional Court (CCM) today informed that it had suspended, till the cause’s consideration, the law on the switching of the Republican Stadium to the state property.   

The CCM judges ceased the process which sees the return of the ground of the Republican Stadium to the state property and abrogation of the decision on the ground’s transmission to the property of the United States for the construction of this state’s diplomatic representation.   

An announcement published by the Court reads that ‘’the suspension of the appealed Law’s action, in order to verify, based on reasonable indexes, the existence of bilateral agreements signed between the government of Moldova with the government of the United States of America, in connection with the transmission of the ground on which there is currently the Republican Stadium, to the property of the United States, for the construction on it of the building of the embassy, under the Law No 151 from 4 October 2018, abrogated through the appealed law. As for the field affected by the Law appealed, the Court states that the solution of suspension is necessary, in order to avoid the negative consequences imminent for the constitutional order.’’     

The law’s appeal was submitted by MPs Dinu Plingau and Maria Ciobanu.
