Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today conveyed a congratulatory message on the Hanukkah Holiday, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The message reads:
„Hanukkah starts today, the holiday of lights in the Jewish calendar.
On this occasion, I want to convey a congratulatory message to the Jewish community of Moldova, as well as the Jews from all over the world.
The value of the holiday has historical and spiritual significances and represents the victory of light over the darkness and of the spirit over the earthly things.
The celebration of light reminds about the spiritual values of the Jewish people, which we appreciate and which contribute to the common benefit: knowledge, solidarity, dialogue and tolerance, faith and hope.
Under the tradition, on the occasion of this holiday, during 8 days in evenings, candles are lighted in a special candlestick with 8 arms, so that the flame of the light symbolically provides more warmth to fellows and the progressive lighting of candles enhances the good deeds and equality between people.
On the occasion of this holiday, I want to congratulate the Jewish community of Moldova, which, by such holidays, promotes the spirit of solidarity of the Jewish nation and the valuable contribution to the common good and hope in a better future.’’
