Moldovan foreign affairs minister, U.S. Department of State official discuss bilateral agenda

Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a phone conversation with a high-ranking official in charge of European and Eurasian affairs at the U.S. Department of State, ambassador Philip T. Reeker, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
The officials tackled up-to-date subjects on the bilateral cooperation agenda. The sides found out a good cooperation in the political and economic sectors and as to the assistance provided to Moldova in the process of implementing democratic reforms.
At the same time, the Moldovan diplomat took note of the concerns expressed by the U.S. Government, in the context of the Moldovan parliament’s recent actions regarding the abrogation of the legislation which authorized the sale of the ground of the former Republican Stadium to the United States for the construction of a new complex of the diplomatic mission.
The officials also referred to the Transnistrian conflict settlement. In this respect, the Moldovan diplomacy head stressed the importance of the 5+2 format of negotiations and the need to organize a meeting in the concerned format, focused on results, as soon as possible in 2021.
Taking advantage of the conversation, Minister Aureliu Ciocoi reiterated to the American side the Moldovan authorities’ appreciation for the valuable assistance provided to Moldova for the government’s modernization efforts, as well as fighting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
