United Nations implements 99 projects on counteracting effects of COVID-19 pandemic in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan diplomacy head today discussed priorities of cooperation with the development partners from the United Nations system. A subject on the discussions’ agenda was the dialogue of the authorities and agencies on the implementation of the Moldova 2030 national development strategy, UN action plan for response to COVID-19 and social and economic improvement, as well as the reviewing of the current cooperation activities.
According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, the Moldovan diplomacy head, Aureliu Ciocoi, noted that the proper implementation of the UN- Moldova Partnership Framework, the joint working plans reconfirm the strategic character of the cooperation between the Moldovan government and the agencies of the UN system and MAEIE would further provide institutional assistance to facilitate the dialogue between the authorities and agencies.
As for the contribution of the development partners to the efforts of counteracting the COVID-19 pandemic, contained including in the UN action plan for response to COVID-19 and social and economic improvement, elaborated by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), through the contribution of 26 specialized agencies from Moldova, Simon Springett informed the foreign minister that 99 projects were under implementation, meant to provide immediate support, as well as long-term, social and economic and recovery response following this pandemic crisis and the plan’s overall value amounts to over 106 million dollars.
During the conversation, Aureliu Ciocoi thanked for the UN’s constant support to mobilize technical assistance and needed funds for backing the reforms for Moldova’s modernization, as well as the role assumed to consolidate the efforts of response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also, the diplomats exchanged opinions on the priorities of activity and intentions of developing projects on medium- and long-term support and assistance.
Attending the discussion, held in format of videoconference, were the UN resident coordinator, Simon Springett, as well as the heads of the offices of the United Nations development agencies in Moldova: UNDP representative Dima Al-Khatib, representative of the World Health Organization Igor Pokanevych, representative of the UN Population Fund Nigina Abaszade, representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (non-resident) Roland Schilling, head of the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Bea Ferenci, programme manager at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Ina Tcaci, representative of the UN Women Dominika Stojanoska, deputy head of the UN Children’s Funds, Ilija Talev.
