Lyceum from north Moldova city to be energy optimized with EU's support

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) and the Balti city hall on 14 December signed the contractor agreements, contracts on technical supervision and copyright for an infrastructure project titled, Enhancing energy efficiency of the Dimitrie Cantemir theoretical lyceum from Balti, financed by the European Union.   

Following public tender procedures, decision-makers established that the energy optimization works at the Balti-based lyceum should be carried out during ten calendar months. The value of the contractor agreement is 19.27 million lei, of which 132,680 lei represents the contribution of the Balti city hall.

As a result of energy efficiency measures, about 900 pupils and 80 teachers and auxiliary staff employees will benefit from improved conditions for education and a comfortable environment for education. The lyceum will benefit from such measures as restoration of roof, insulation of building’s walls, replacing windows, rehabilitation of the heating system, supply with hot and cold running water, renovation of sanitary facilities inside the institution, etc. Following the project’s implementation, the normed annual consumption of energy at the education institution will decrease, according to estimations by 547 MWh and the annual normed emissions of CO2 – by 125 tons.   

The investment measure, Enhancing the energy efficiency of the Dimitrie Cantemir theoretical lyceum from Balti city, is financed by the European Union, in cooperation with the project, Local Public Services Modernization in Moldova, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova), in partnership with the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and financially backed by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
