Chisinau gets funding for modernization of waste management system

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau city hall and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have signed an agreement to finance 9 million euros in modernization of the waste management system.

The event is part of the implementation of the Solid Waste Chisinau Project, for which the municipality negotiated with development partners in order to obtain financial sources for development.

The financing plan of the project provides: EBRD loan - 9 million euros; EIB loan - 9 million euros to be paid to the city hall as a non-reimbursable loan through the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development, as an integral part of the Country Waste Management Project; grant - 5 million euros from the Eastern European Partnership Fund for Energy Efficiency and Environment. Also, the municipality's contribution to support the project is 7.96 million euros.

According to Mayor Ion Ceban, the project is of vital importance for the capital, so the modernization of the waste collection, transportation and storage service is imminent.
