425 pupils in Moldova tested positive for COVID-19 - education ministry says

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/- On 18 December the number of pupils tested positive for COVID-19 is 425, and 8,540 were placed under self-isolation.
514 teachers have been confirmed positive with the new coronavirus and 305 are in isolation. Of the non-teaching and support staff, 143 people were infected with the new virus, and another 133 are in self-isolation, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) has reported.
According to the ministry, in technical vocational education, on 14-18 December eight students tested positive for the Sars-Cov-2 virus, 18 - teachers and 9 - non-teaching and support staff were registered. Also, 6 groups of pupils are placed under self-isolation.
On 14-18 December, 34 students are tested positive for COVID-19 in higher education, and 91 under self-isolation. 20 teachers were tested positive, and 8 - under self-isolation. 8 - non-teaching and support staff , 6 - self-isolation, MECC said.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research reiterates urge to school managers, teachers and students to continue to comply with all measures to protect against COVID-19 virus.
Today, pupils in the country have switched to online study. This is after the National Commission for Public Health decided at the 11 December meeting that on 21-24 December in all educational institutions of primary, secondary and high school, the classes will take place remotely. The decision was made in the context of worsening the epidemiological situation in the country.
