Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/- The promulgation decree and the law on use of languages in Moldova were published in the Official Journal.
The document, criticized by the parliamentary opposition, states that in Gagauzia, the official language, in different spheres of life, is the state language, Gagauz or Russian.
Also, it sees that Moldova guarantees citizens the right to education in the state language and the language of interethnic communication at all levels of the education system.
The government shall within 12 months submit to parliament proposals on bringing the existing legislation in accordance with this law; bring its laws in accordance with this law; adopt the necessary acts for the implementation of this law. The government will examine costs and other needs for implementing free state language study programs for national minorities, under the Article 1, and will propose the appropriate rectification of the state budget for the purposes.
Also, the issue comprises the draft amendment and supplementing the Law on local public administration and the Law on administrative decentralization and the draft amendment to the Law on administrative-territorial organization of the Republic of Moldova. The adoption of the documents was also criticized by the parliamentary opposition and several international organisations.
