Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - Farmers today resumed protests after a three-day break. They demand compensations worth 3,000 lei per one hectare for the second-group cereals, seriously hit by the drought. Carriers, as well as representatives of the HoReCa sector informed that they joined the protest.

The protesters parked more tractors outside Moldova’s parliament building, as well as outside the presidency building and carriers brought vehicles to the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN). Demonstrators shout Resignation!, Snap Elections! We Do Not Give Up! Representatives and supporters of other parties joined the protesters too.

The executive director of the National Farmers’ Federation, Vasile Mirzenco, said that farmers had demanded meetings with the prime minister, finance minister, MPs. Nevertheless, their demands were not heard. Mirzenco noted that the farmers would protest peacefully and demanded that the authorities hear their requests.

Employees of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) came up with a string of recommendations in the context of farmers’ protest and asked the participants in the rally to observe the law and not allow infringements of public order and safety.

„The police urge all participants in the protest to exercise their right to free expression peacefully, comply with the law-enforcers’ instructions, restrictions imposed by the authorities, not to come up with messages instigating to aggression, violence and other kinds of actions dangerous for the citizens’ safety,’’ a press release by the police reads.

Farmers from more districts of Moldova have been protesting during more days in the centre of the Moldovan capital.
