Chess might be studied in primary education institutions of Moldova

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - The teaching of chess might be introduced in the first forms among the optional disciplines.
Education, Culture and Research Minister Lilia Pogolsa and the state secretary in the youth and sport sector, Ivan Gheorghiu, on 21 December had a meeting with the secretary general of the Moldovan Chess Federation, Valeriu Coada and international relations manager of the Federation, Sergiu Bargan. The main subjects tackled at the meeting were focused on the working out of the syllabus on teaching chess in the primary education at the expense of optional classes in the first form; training of teachers due to teach the option discipline Chess to first-form pupils; carrying out of projects on the arrangement and endowment with needed equipment of specialized rooms for the teaching of chess in general education institutions; pupils’ active involvement in chess championships and tournaments, etc.
Lilia Pogolsa said that the Education Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) was open for the support and promotion of chess among young people, as this sport develops memory, logical thinking, observation, analysis, improves concentration and promotes the imagination and creativeness.
In the context, the participants in discussions referred to the need to elaborate a curriculum at the optional discipline of chess for the first form and organizing seminars and continuous training courses for teachers. In the end, the sides agreed on boosting the cooperation relations, in order to back the studying of chess in primary education institutions.
