Moldovan government strengthens status of community mediator

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, at a proposal by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC), today approved the amendment of a government decision, in order to strengthen the institution of community mediator in Moldova for ensuring the social inclusion of the people belonging to the Romany ethnic minority.
Under the document, decision-makers extended the powers of the Interethnic Relations Agency, through the inclusion of the task of ensuring the social inclusion of the residents of Romany ethnic minority and supervising the work of community mediators.
„To consolidate the powers of the community mediator, continuous professional trainings will be held by the authority of the local public administration, in cooperation with the Interethnic Relations Agency, with the annual setting of subjects of training in cooperation with the competent ministries, civil society, National Association of Community Mediators from Moldova and other relevant actors, as well as development partners, providers of training services, etc.’’ the cabinet decision reads.
Also, the cabinet extended the powers of the community mediator, proceeding from the needs of the population belonging to the Romany ethnic minority, especially in the employment sector and health care, through ensuring the cooperation of the community mediator with specialists in the social assistance field and his/her participation in meetings of the local councils and their specialty commissions.
