Moldovan parliament meeting not to be held

Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/- Special meeting scheduled for today, in which the motion of censure against the government was to be examined will no longer take place, because the issue was exhausted after Prime Minister Ion Chicu announced his resignation. Speaker Zinaida Greceanii made the statement at a conference.
The speaker said that tomorrow, the lawmakers are expected at special meeting of inauguration of President-elect Maia Sandu and will return to work in February.
Chicu said today he resigns together with the entire Cabinet of Ministers and would have a meeting with President-elect Maia Sandu to settle the government's work.
According to the legislation, the cabinet will be in office until the members of the new government take the oath. During resignation, it will only perform administrative functions and cannot make decisions related to foreign policy and does not have the right to legislative initiative. The president is obliged to initiate consultations with the parliamentary factions for the formation of a new government. The deadline for investing the new cabinet is three months. If no new government is voted in this period, the parliament is dissolved and snap polls are held.
