Germany to allocate ten million euros for supply with water of two central Moldova districts

Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government of Germany will allocate another ten million euros for the development of water supply systems in the settlements of the central Straseni and Calarasi districts. For this, the Centru Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru) has recently signed an additional agreement with the German Development Bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), in order to implement the project titled, Improvement of water infrastructure in Central Moldova.
As much as 8.5 million euros from the grant earmarked will be used for working out technical projects and contracting construction works for the settlements selected. The additional agreement which provides the grant worth 1.5 million euros is meant for complementary measures as to the institutional development and increasing the capacities of operation of the enterprises which manage the water supply service in the aforementioned districts.
„An important activity due to be carried out within the project is the regionalization of water operators from Straseni and Calarasi; thus, it is possible to provide services to all settlements connected to the new water source following the construction of the water main Chisinau-Straseni-Calarasi,’’ ADR Centru sources said.
Presently, a team of experts elaborates the technical project for the new aqueduct and the preliminary technical projects for four additional settlements.
The project titled, Improvement of water infrastructure in Central Moldova, is financially backed by the German Federal Government through KfW and ADR Centru is the institution in charge of its implementation. The overall cost of the investments scheduled is of about 27.65 million euros, of which 25 million euros represents the grant provided by the government of Germany and 2.65 million euros is the contribution guaranteed by the National Regional Development Fund.
