Moldovan foreign affairs minister, UNFPA representative discuss social cooperation agenda

Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today received the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova,  Nigina Abaszada, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.  

The officials discussed priority subjects on the organization’s agenda. The sides reiterated the institutional support of MAEIE in the context of carrying out the national strategic programme in the demographic security sector for 2011-2025.

In the context, the Moldovan diplomacy head appreciated the role and contribution of UNFPA to the promotion of policies and improving the demographic situation in Moldova, implicitly, in the sector of family protection, health of young people and women, as well as the impact of the migration processes on the population. Aureliu Ciocoi showed interest in boosting the cooperation with UNFPA, in the context of implementing the country programme for 2018-2022 and the national strategic programme in the demographic security field for 2011-2025, which is a strategic goal of the government, as it contributes to mobilizing technical assistance and necessary funds in the social policies’ sectors.

The diplomats exchanged opinions on the fields of statistics of population, health and youth services, gender and civic commitments, which help for the implementation of the sustainable development goals and identifying new cooperation sectors.    

Foreign Affairs Minister Aureliu Ciocoi reiterated Moldova’s commitment to support the social cohesion between generations, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen the efforts of the authorities and development partners to protect elderly people, including through the involvement of the young generation.  

The United Nations Population Fund is a member agency of the UN, which speaks out for a world where each pregnancy is desired, each birth is safe and each young person can fully carry out his/her potential. UNFPA backs the Moldovan government to develop the resilience to the demographic challenges, through the involvement of the young generation in projects on supporting the elderly people and developing an inter-generation dialogue.
