Moldovan Forest Code updated

Chisinau, 24 December /MOLDPRES/- The Forest Code of Moldova has been adjusted to the new requirements and challenges faced by the forestry sector, being supplemented with provisions underlying the sustainable management of forests. The draft document was approved this week by the government.

The draft Forest Code aims to ensure the continuity of forests and biodiversity in correlation with the growing conditions of the influence of anthropogenic activity and climate change, and provides new and updated regulations that will contribute to the rational use of forest products.

The new project included tariffs for calculating the amount of damages caused by the violation of forestry legislation, such as illegal logging activities, damage to trees, destruction of forest crops, damage to drainage systems etc.

For the implementation of the project, financial resources will be allocated from the state budget, as well as from external financing sources, through negotiations with development partners.
