Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Party of Socialists (PSRM) further speaks out for snap elections. The head of the PSRM parliamentary faction, Corneliu Furculita, today made statements to this effect at the end of consultations with President Maia Sandu.
The Socialists delegated Corneliu Furculita, Radu Mudreac and Petru Burduja to the consultations launched by the head of state. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Presidency and lasted several minutes.
At the end of the meeting, Corneliu Furculita told the president that PSRM declared for snap parliamentary elections, following the dismissal of the cabinet led by Ion Chicu. ‘’If Maia Sandu has a candidacy for the office of prime minister, we will consider it and the decision is up to us. I reiterate that we speak out for snap elections,’’ Furculita said.
He added that ‘’the negotiations are over at this phase.’’
Today morning, President Maia Sandu said she would have consultations with all parliamentary factions and groups.
On 23 December morning, Ion Chicu informed that he was going to resign from the office of PM. According to Chicu, the first step was thus made for launching snap parliamentary elections.
Under the legislation, the cabinet of minister is to be acting till the new cabinet members are sworn in office. On the period when the government is acting, it will fulfill only duties of managing public affairs.
Also, the Moldovan president is obliged to initiate consultations with the parliamentary factions for the creation of a new cabinet. The deadline for the swearing in office of the new government is three months. If no cabinet of ministers is voted on this period, the parliament is dissolved and snap parliamentary elections are launched.
