Former Moldova's ambassador to Russia detained in file on smuggling of anabolics

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The former ambassador of Moldova to Russia today appeared before prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS). He was heard and recognized as suspect of complicity with the contraband with anabolics.
According to PCCOCS data, at the hearing, he denied any involvement in the actions imputed by prosecutors. Nevertheless, prosecutors ruled to preventively detain him for 72 hours.
PCCOCS is to verify the depositions given by the suspect, with the evidence accumulated in the file, and depending on circumstances due to be established, prosecutors will decide on the need of bringing charges against the former ambassador, with the demand to apply the arrest.
The driver of the mini-bus with diplomatic registration numbers, as well as another person who would have connection with this case were also arrested in the file on anabolics.
The substances were found by the Customs Service and the Intelligence and Security Service in a vehicle on 5 December 2020 and under estimations, the consignment of anabolics amounts to more than 8 million lei.
