Faction of Moldova's Action and Solidarity Party speaks out for snap parliamentary elections

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/ - The snap elections would be the only solution demanded by the citizens and the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) considers more options which would lead to the current parliament’s dissolution. The leader of the PAS parliamentary faction, Igor Grosu, made statements to this effect following consultations with President Maia Sandu today.

Five PAS MPs attended the consultations with Maia Sandu: Igor Grosu, Mihai Popsoi, Sergiu Litvinenco, Doina Gherman and Dan Perciun. In the end, the PAS acting leader, Igor Grosu, said that the country needed a new parliament and the easiest way is that the present parliament does not adopt any decision during 90 days, till 17 March 2021.

„There were no proposals, as we speak out for snap elections. Any discussions about an anti-crisis government leads to the postponing of the polls and is a trap,’’ Grosu noted.

Igor Grosu also said another option considered by PAS would be the self-dissolution of the parliament, which is yet not provided for in the Constitution. ‘’I have heard about the option of self-dissolution; it can be discussed. We will be interested in learning the position of the High Court on this option,’’ Grosu said.

Today morning, President Maia Sandu said she would have consultations with all parliamentary factions and groups.

On 23 December morning, Ion Chicu informed that he was going to resign from the office of PM. According to Chicu, the first step was thus made for launching snap parliamentary elections.

Under the legislation, the cabinet of minister is to be acting till the new cabinet members are sworn in office. On the period when the government is acting, it will fulfill only duties of managing public affairs.

Also, the Moldovan president is obliged to initiate consultations with the parliamentary factions for the creation of a new cabinet. The deadline for the swearing in office of the new government is three months. If no cabinet of ministers is voted on this period, the parliament is dissolved and snap parliamentary elections are launched.
