Chisinau, 30 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with farmers’ representatives from Moldova. At the meeting, the farmers informed the president that the drought and the full indifference had made them took to street.
„They took to street, in order to demand support from the government and parliament, so as to be able to partially cover the losses borne because of the drought, to be able to reschedule the loans, in order to be able to start the next agricultural season. Another subject tackled was focused on the rescheduling of loans for economic agents from the farming sector. In this respect, Maia Sandu said: ‘’I will ask the Agriculture Ministry to intermediate a meeting with representatives of the banking system on the interest on credits and identifying solutions for the rescheduling of the debts for the earlier borrowed loans.’’
Following the discussions, President Maia Sandu assured that she would look for foreign assistance. ‘’To overcome this situation, created by the lack of the responsible majority in parliament, I will further ask for foreign assistance, in order to back the worst hit farms. At the same time, I will promote projects due to settle the systemic problems in the agricultural sector, including the construction of irrigation systems, so that we have competitive agricultural production on the local and external markets,’’ the head of state added.
