Police detain four TIR drivers for smuggling drugs worth over one million lei in Moldova

Chisinau, 4 January /MOLDPRES/ - The police have detained four men aged between 30 and 55 years from Chisinau and Ialoveni town. According to law-enforcers, they worked as TIR drivers and were bringing drugs in particularly large amounts to Moldova.
The police said that the ring members had been bringing drugs from European countries and subsequently were selling them in Moldova.
After several months of investigations, searches were made at the homes and transport means of the men, as a result of which, almost 3,000 pills of Ecstasy and financial means amounting to 22,000 lei and 1,300 euros, presumably coming from the criminal activity, were discovered. The drugs confiscated could be sold on the black market at a price of about one million lei.
During last December, two drivers were detained. At present, they have the capacity of defendants in a criminal file opened for putting ‘’in illegal circulation of drugs, ethno-botanical substances on the purpose of sale.’’ The organizer of the criminal scheme is prosecuted under arrest and another suspect is subject to legal restrictions pending trial.
