Chisinau-based Mihai Eminescu National Theatre launches cultural actions dedicated to institution's 100th anniversary

Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNEME), which will mark its 100th anniversary on 6 October 2021, has launched a string of cultural actions dedicated to this event.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, TNEME director Petru Hadarca said that diverse cultural actions would be organized each week on this occasion.
”The Romanian theatre, conceived as public institution of national interest, recognized and identified as such by acts and respectively, subsidized from the state budget, was founded in the autumn of 1921 and the theatrical season was opened on 6 October. Three years later, in 1924, this status was confirmed by royal decree. Yet, the Romanian theatre, with troupes which tried to create a repertoire theatre, as well as the tours of Romanian troupes from beyond the Prut river started immediately after the act of the Union. Thus, the Romanian dramatic company of cultural propaganda in Bessarabia was set up in 1919 and the People’s Theatre – in 1920. The issue of opening a Romanian language theatre was discussed in Sfatul Țării (Country Council – local legislative body) shortly before the Union, on 14 March 1918, ‘’Petru Hadarca said.
According to Hadarca, the National Bank of Moldova will edit a special coin on this occasion. Also, diverse plays dedicated to the institution’s anniversary, as well as the Meeting of Romanian Theatres will take place.
Petru Hadarca is the author of the book titled, O cronică a Teatrului Național ”Mihai Eminescu’’ din Chișinău 1918-1930 (A Chronicle of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre from Chisinau – 1918-1930). Presently, he prepares for printing the second volume about the institution’s history.
