Moldova marks 171st birth anniversary of poet Mihai Eminescu, National Culture Day

Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/- National poet Mihai Eminescu is honored today in Chisinau and throughout the country, 171 years. The event is part of the series of actions organized by the National Culture Day celebrated on the same day in the Republic of Moldova.
On this occasion, in the morning acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, representatives of central and local public administration, politicians, writers, people of culture, admirers of Eminescu's creation laid flowers at the poet bust on the Alley of Classics of Romanian Literature in the Public Garden Ștefan cel Mare.
Writers' Union head Arcadie Suceveanu said that Eminescu's birthday is a celebration of the Romanian verb, marked in the entire Eminescu living space.
In this context, the deputy head of the Writers' Union of Moldova, Teo Chiriac noted that Mihai Eminescu is honored today all over the world, in any place where there is a Romanian soul. "The Eminescu spirit exists everywhere. His work remains always current ", he said.
Today Chisinau city hall planned a lot of cultutal events on this occasion, which will be broadcast online.
The National Library of the Republic of Moldova organizes the opening of the exhibition of documents and publications from the BNRM collections with the title Outstanding personalities of national history and culture and of the exhibition Mihai Eminescu - fundamental myth of culture.
Mihai Eminescu, considered by posthumous literary critics as the most important poetic voice in Romanian literature, was born on 15 January 1850 in Botosani, Romania. He died on 15 June 1889 in Bucharest. On 28 October 1948 Mihai Eminescu was elected post-mortem member of the Romanian Academy.
The National Day of Culture was established by a decision of the parliament in April 2012, and is marked since 2013, aiming to promote national culture, authentic cultural values, as well as artistic personalities in culture. Celebrated in different countries differently, the National Day of Culture in the Republic of Moldova is dedicated to the birthday of the great poet Mihai Eminescu, a personality who defines the essential values of national culture.
