Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova, His Excellency Peter Michalko. The officials discussed priority directions of cooperation between Moldova and the EU institutions. The sides tackled both aspects of the domestic policy and prospects of the foreign policy, including in the context an official Maia Sandu is to pay to Brussels next week.
Maia Sandu thanked Ambassador Michalko and thus all European partners for the openness and constant support from which Moldova had benefited on behalf of the European Union during years. In particular, the head of state stressed the importance of the European support Moldova benefited from in 2020. ‘’We agreed, at the same time, on the need to boost the relations between Moldova and the European Union, in order to ensure a firm, medium- and long-term answer to the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis, both for the health system of Moldova and for our country’s economy. In this context, I noted that one of the priorities of the visit to Brussels is to provide the country with anti-COVID-19 vaccine and medical equipment, in order to cease the pandemic’ extension,’’ Maia Sandu said.
At the same time, the Moldovan president assured the EU Ambassador that it was priority for Moldova to remain a consistent and sure neighbour of EU – both as political and economic partner and as member of the Eastern Partnership. ‘’Therefore, we will do our utmost to implement the agenda of reforms and association with the European Union,’’ Maia Sandu said.
