Moldovan president attends show opening events dedicated to centenary of Mihai Eminescu National Theatre

Chisinau, 16 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 15 January evening attended a show opening a string of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the work of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, due to be marked in 2021. Maia Sandu addressed congratulations to the Theatre’s employees on the anniversary and the National Culture Day. She noted that this was a day through which Moldova honours both the national culture and the talent, labour and creativity of artists, with whom the leadership was happy to share the same times.  

„I know that we experience hard times, which the art people fully felt: the theatres were closed, the concert halls were empty many months in a row and the salaries from the creative industries continue to remain low. The situation was burdened by the pandemic, lack of spectators and audience, having not only a financial, but also a spiritual valence. Yet, so much the more, we need each other and I will go to the theatre, exhibitions or concerts whenever I have occasion. I will be by the side of you, dear artists, and I will be happy with every event which enriches the cultural space and satisfies us spiritually. Let us maintain the joy of creating, the joy of living and I wish us to be healthy. For the dear people, for the physicians from hospitals, for artists on stage,’’ President Maia Sandu told those present in the hall of the National Theatre.    

On the occasion of the centenary of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, the head of state accepted, with honour and happiness, that the events dedicated to this jubilee are carried out under aegis of Moldova’s Presidency. ‘’I thus express the appreciation, respect and gratitude to those who create the cultural identity of the country and nation,’’ Maia Sandu added.
