Moldovan fine artist passes away

Chisinau, 16 January /MOLDPRES/- Fine artist, Master in Art, laureate of more national and international awards Mihai Mireanu died at the age of 71 today morning.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, fine artist, the wife of the departed artist, Virginia Mireanu, said that Mihai Mireanu had died at the Emergency Hospital, where he was hospitalized since 13 January, infected with COVID.
Besides painting, the departed fine artist was also dealing with journalism and literature. The last exhibition of Mihai Mireanu was staged at the Constantin Brancusi exhibition centre in September 2020.
For her part, the deputy head of the Moldovan Fine Artists’ Union, Florina Breazu, said that Mihai Mireanu had been an active participant in the cultural life of Moldova.
Mihai Mireanu was born in the village of Olanesti, eastern Stefan Voda district, on 8 February 1949. He finished the Chisinau-based A. Plamadeala Fine Arts College. In 1985, Mireanu became member of the Moldovan Fine Artists’ Union. He had more exhibitions in Moldova and Romania. Mihai Mireanu was awarded numerous prizes at national and international contests. His works are preserved in public and private collections from Moldova, Romania, Russia, France, Canada, Italy, Israel, Germany, USA and other countries. In 2010, Mihai Mireanu was awarded the honorific title of Master in Art.
