Air temperature to drop to -18 degrees in Moldova on 19 January

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has extended the Yellow Code of sharp weather change till 20 January. Thus, on 18-19 January, the air temperature will oscillate between -13 and -18 Celsius degrees at night and between -3 and -8 degrees during the day.
According to meteorologists, the weather with severe frost will maintain on the days to come, when the Orthodox Christians celebrate the Baptism of the Lord and Saint John the Baptist. The specialists’ forecasts this time coincide with the people’s meteorology, which shows that these holidays are characterized by quite low air temperatures.
Starting from 21 January, the weather will start gradually warming, so that, till the end of this week, the air temperature will grow to +7 Celsius degrees during the day and -1 degree at night. During this week, SHS does not forecast precipitation, but on the contrary, variable cloud, preponderantly blue sky, with sunny intervals.
The Baptism of the Lord marks the moment when the Savior was baptized in the waters of Jordan by Saint John at the age of 30 years. The traditional cycle of winter holidays ends with the Baptism of the Lord, followed by Saint John the Baptist. Through the ritual specific for this religious event, the big waters are blessed on this day and the environment is purified from malefic forces.
