Extremely low air temperatures do not hit agricultural crops in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - The lowest air temperature in the last three years has been registered in Moldova.
The State Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova (SHS) informed that the air temperatures recorded on the night of 18 to 19 January 2021 were the lowest ones in the last three years. Data collected by Moldovan weather forecasters show that the lowest air temperatures were registered in the northern region, where the air temperature oscillated between -21 and -18 Celsius degrees Air temperatures around -16 degrees were recorded in the central districts, in the Criuleni and Calarasi districts. In the southern region, the air temperatures varied between -19 and -14 degrees, with the lowest air temperature recorded in the Stefan Voda district.
Meteorologists say that, for the time being, the agricultural crops were not hit by the frost; yet, this might happen, if the phenomenon lasted more days in a row. On the other hand, the weather is expected to gradually warm.
The wave of cold air will last three days and the air temperatures are expected to return to normal; at night, the air temperatures will be of +1 Celsius degree and during the day, positive air temperatures will be recorded - up to +9 degrees.
