Moldovan president says Moldova's priority reforming justice, edifying strong institutions

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a string of meetings with members of the European Parliament, during an official visit to Brussels, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu and the vice-president of the European People’s Party (EPP), co-president of the EU-Moldova Association Parliamentary Committee Siegfried Muresan, Chair of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister discussed the new priorities of development for Moldova and the need to maintain the EU countries’ increased interest in the close bilateral cooperation with Moldova, despite the lack of a functional government in Chisinau. ‘’I thanked the members of the European People’s Party for the constant support provided to the democratic processes from Moldova, both from Brussels and from inside the member states. At the same time, I asked them to help us in identifying a solution for the anti-Covid-19 vaccine to be brought to Moldova as soon as possible. Through the cooperation with the European partners, Moldova can manage to attenuate the impact of the economic and sanitary crisis,’’ the head of state said.
During a meeting with the president of the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament, Dacian Ciolos, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, Dragos Tudorache, and the deputy president of the Delegation to the EU-Moldova Association Parliamentary Committee, Ramona Strugariu, Maia Sandu discussed the domestic political developments in Moldova and combating the corruption as a major priority of the Moldovan president’s mandate. ‘’The members of the Renew Europe Group have always been on the side of transformation and modernization of Moldova and made continuous efforts for our country to become a strong, really European state, with independent institutions which work for the citizens,’’ Maia Sandu said at the end of the meeting.
The economic and political situation in Moldova, as well as ways of cooperation for solving citizens’ problems was approached at a meeting with the president on behalf of the EURONEST European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius, and MEP Petras Austrevicius. ‘’I stressed that our priority is to reform the justice and edify strong institutions, as well as boost the cooperation with EU on more levels. The exchange of experience and the multilateral collaboration with other states from the Eastern Partnership are useful and important for Moldova’s advancement on the European agenda,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.
