Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet approved today the establishment of the Preliminary Research Commission for declaring the public utility of national interest of the construction works of Vulcănești – Chisinau overhead power transmission power line and Vulcănești Back-to-Back station.
According to the government's communication and protocol department, the works are part of the project Interconnection of electricity networks between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, Phase I. To finance the works, the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD was concluded in the amount of 80 million euros, the financing contract between the Republic of Moldova and the EIB worth 80 million euros, the loan agreements between the Republic of Moldova and the International Development Association (IDA) worth 47.9 million euros and 13.1 million euros, as well as the grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova, Moldelectrica and EBRD worth 39.9 million euros.
The project envisages the construction of a 400 kV overhead power transmission line with a length of about 158 km in Vulcanesti – Chisinau. It will cross the territory of 35 localities from 9 regions of the country, including Gagauzia and Chisinau. At the same time, the 330 kV SE Chisinau and 400 kV SE Vulcanesti power stations will be modernized and extended.
The created commission will organize working meetings in the territory, with the representatives of the local public authorities of level I and II, on whose territorial radius the public utility works will be carried out. Each district president and mayor of the mentioned localities will be exposed on the objects to be placed directly on the territory of the territorial units.
The asynchronous interconnection of electricity networks between the Republic of Moldova and Romania is an important step for our country towards the integration of the Republic of Moldova in the European single electricity market. This will provide a higher level of energy security by diversifying the sources of electricity supply, creating a favorable competitive environment in the country's electricity market, which will consequently provide a reduced price for final consumers.
