Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/- For poet, prose writer, essayist and translator, winner of the National Prize Leo Butnaru, 2020 was full of joy, fulfilment and shattered hopes.
Leo Butnaru said he had planned editions, departures, book launches in Romania or in other countries.
He was awarded the prize of the magazine Deti Ra, Moscow, for poetry and the special prize of the Jury of the Writers' Union of Moldova for the volume of poems -Excess poetry does not harm your health. From Târgu Mureș he received confirmation that he is the laureate of the Excellence Award for Poetry at the Colloquium of Pan-Romanian Literary and Humanist Magazines, 7th edition.
Leo Butnaru was born on January 5, 1949 in Negureni, Telenesti district. In 1972 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology, journalism department of the State University of Moldova. He was an editor at the newspapers Tinerimea Moldovei and Noutăți Editoriale, head of section at the weekly Literatura şi arta, editor-in-chief of the magazine Moldova, consultant at the Translation Bureau of the Writers' Union of Moldova. In 1990-1993 he was vice-president of the Writers' Union of Moldova.
Butnaru has been awarded several prizes of the Writers' Union of Moldova, the Prize of the Writers' Union of Romania (1998; 2015), the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova (2002), the Prize of the Board of Directors and the Council of the Writers' Union of Romania (2008), the Prize of the Ministry Culture of the Republic of Moldova (2013), the Prize of the Association of Literary Publications and Publishers in Romania Writer of 2009 and the Grand Prize and Laurel Wreath of the Tomis Poetry Tournament, organized by USR (2016). He was awarded the Labor Glory Order and Order of Honor of Moldova and order of Cultural Merit in the degree of Knight of Romania.
