Exhibition on art of handwriting inaugurated at Moldova's National Library

Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - The National Library of Moldova (BNRM), in partnership with the National Agency of Archives, marks the International Handwriting Day, annually held on 23 January, through a joint exhibition titled, Art of the hand writing, inaugurated at the headquarters of BNRM today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, BNRM director Elena Pintilei has said that the aforementioned exhibition comprised true art works made by medieval calligraphers in various workshops of copyists, which are preserved in the heritage collections of the National Library and the National Agency of Archive.
The International Handwriting Day was established in 1977 at an initiative by the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association, (WIMA), with the initial reason being the promotion of the consumption of pens, pencils and writing paper. Presently, this day is marked in order to recall the beauty and need of the already a rarity in the age of information technologies, when many of us almost do not need pencils and writing papers.
The International Handwriting Day precedes another important day – International Education Day, marked on 24 January since 2018, at an initiative by UNESCO, in order to celebrate the role of education for peace and development.
The exhibits will be part of the BNRM visiting circuit for free till June 2021.
