Moldovan parliament delegation attends PACE winter session

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDORES/-The Moldovan parliament delegation participates in the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). It takes place on 25 -28 January in Strasbourg, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The delegation includes deputy speakers Vlad Batrîncea and Mihail Popșoi - a member of the delegation. Also, MPs Gaik Vartanean, Secretary of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration, Liviu Vovc, Secretary of the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family, Monica Babuc, Member of the Committee on Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sport and Media.
Delegation members will participate in the election of the Secretary General of the PACE and Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, as well as two judges at the European Court of Human Rights.
Topics on the agenda of the PACE session include debates on the independence of judges in Poland and the Republic of Moldova and implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights.
The meeting will also discuss the ethical, legal and practical considerations of coronavirus vaccines. The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will address parliamentarians during the debate.
Other topics on the agenda include ethnic profiling in Europe, restrictions on the activities of NGOs in Council of Europe member states and discrimination against people facing chronic and long-term illnesses and so on.
On the sidelines of the PACE winter session, the Moldovan delegation will have a meeting with the newly appointed co-rapporteur of the PACE Monitoring Commission for the Republic of Moldova, Pierre-Alain Fridez, representative of Switzerland.
The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe takes place in a mixed format, in compliance with strict health measures.
