Chisinau, 3 February /MOLDPRES/- Evaluation of integrated management of water resources in the Dniester river basin will be carried out by a special parliamentary commission. Members of the legal committee on rules and immunities adopted a decision on the matetr today.
Thus, the commission members will evaluate the potential of the Dniester River; examine cross-border relations on sustainable use of natural resources in the Dniester River basin; will work to strengthen the institutional and organizational framework necessary for the viable use and protection of the Dniester to ensure the country's food security.
The authors of the draft decision are a group of MPs of PSRM faction, who claim that lately there is degradation of the hydrological, hydrochemical and hydrobiological regime, decrease of the river's self-purification capacity, disappearance of several valuable fish species, intensive siltation and Dubasari dam lake.
According to international standards, a water threshold of less than 1,000 cubic meters per person per year can hinder economic development and affect quality of life of people.
