Well-known Moldovan academician passes away

Chisinau, 3 February /MOLDPRES/ - Academician, mathematician, holder of the Order of the Republic Mitrofan Ciobanu died at the age of 79 on 2 February.

The press service of Moldova’s Academy of Science made statements to this effect.

Mitrofan Ciobanu was born in the Copceac village, south-eastern Stefan Voda district, on 5 January 1942. He was PhD in physical and mathematical sciences, university professor, author of more than 500 scientific articles published in Moldova and abroad in such research sectors as: topology, descriptive theory of crowds, functional analysis, theory of topologic optimization, theory of measure, etc. Ciobanu was head of the Mathematics Society of Moldova and knight of the Order of the Republic.
