Oncological diseases as second cause of death in Moldova

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/- Oncological diseases are the second leading cause of mortality in the country. In 2012 -2019 there was an increase in cancer mortality. The data were presented today by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection in the context of marking the World Cancer Day.
Experts say the cancer epidemic is the second leading cause of death globally.
Over 9.6 million deaths are due to cancer. By 2030, experts say cancer deaths will increase to more than 13 million annually, which is more than HIV / AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
In 2019, 6,132 people died from oncological diseases in Moldova. Among men, the mortality rate is 1.5 times higher than among women.
World Cancer Day is marked annually on 4 February since 2000 following the initiative of the International Union for Cancer Control to raise awareness, education and individual, collective and government action to reduce the burden of cancer worldwide.
