Two EU-supported regional projects started work in northern Moldova

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/- Construction work for two EU-funded projects was launched yesterday in the Northern Region. It is about improving the water supply services in Drochia and energy efficiency of Iurie Boghiu gymnasium in Flămânzeni village, Sangerei district.

"The European Union continues to back Moldovan citizens with concrete and tangible projects. Today we are taking the first step to improving the study and working conditions for pupils and teachers of gymnasium in Flămânzeni and I am proud that in this way, the European Union contributes once again to improved quality of life. Energy efficiency and water supply measures will provide better comfort for students, contribute to the modernization of infrastructure in rural areas and provide access to safe drinking water, " Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said.

German Ambassador to Chisinau Angela Ganninger said "energy efficiency is a key sector of German development cooperation in Moldova." "Over time, Germany has made a significant contribution to improving the living conditions of the people of Moldova, including by ensuring access to quality drinking water. The successful coordination and cooperation of the EU, Germany and the Republic of Moldova in water supply and sewerage projects opens up new perspectives and opportunities for growth, and we want citizens and authorities to make the best use of them," she said.

The project in Drochia is estimated at 4.3 million euros, of which 3.9 million euros - granted by the EU and 311,000 euros - local contribution. The project of Iurie Boghiu gymnasium in Flămânzeni amounts to 877 thousand euros, of which 866 thousand euros - granted by the EU and 11 thousand euros - local contribution.

The investment measures Improving water supply in Drochia and Increasing energy efficiency of Iurie Boghiu gymnasium in Flămânzeni are financed by the European Union. They are implemented by ADR North in cooperation with the project Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova, which is managed by the Agency for International Cooperation of Germany (GIZ Moldova), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and financially supported by the German government.
