Justice reform strategy discussed at Moldova's government

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today chaired a meeting dedicated to the Strategy for Reformation of Justice. Attending the event were Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, EU Ambassador Peter Michalko, Justice Minister Fadei Nagacevschi and the presidential adviser in the justice sector, Olesea Stamate, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The discussions were focused on the forthcoming promulgation by the presidential institution of the Strategy for Reformation of Justice, as well as the strengthening of the inter-institutional cooperation, in order to ensure a more efficient work in all sectors.    

The acting PM said that the reforms underway in all activity sectors, especially in the justice one, must continue, no matter the political changes which took place in Moldova. Aureliu Ciocoi urged the colleagues to do their utmost, so that the state’s institutions work as normal and the needed actions are undertaken without delay.  

„We have no time to lose, in order to wait for a day when we have political stability. I urge you not to look for excuses, but to work together, join efforts and see what we can do even in this complicated period. I am sure that we can create the necessary conditions, so that the Strategy for Reformation of Justice is successfully implemented,’’ Aureliu Ciocoi said.    

The ambassadors attending the discussion stressed the importance of continuing the process of justice’s reformation, regardless of the political circumstances in the society. As a priority, they suggested focusing on two key items: consolidating the cooperation between institutions and implementation of the provisions stipulated in the Strategy for Reformation of Justice, which can be enforced even in the conditions of an acting cabinet.  

The strategy’s goal is to overcome the challenges, in order to improve the justice sector and proves the state’s commitment to ensure an independent, impartial, responsible and efficient justice sector.
