Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cooperation with the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), whose member Moldova has been for more than 25 years, has been the subject of a discussion between President Maia Sandu and Secretary General of the La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo.  The meeting took place during a working visit paid by the head of state to Paris, at an invitation by her French counterpart, the presidential press service has reported.

Maia Sandu welcomed the OIF’s role in the promotion of the French language and culture all over the world, as well as in backing the democratic reforms in the member states, including the concept of good governance, to which Moldova aspires. The Moldovan president also stressed the importance of francophone projects for young people from Moldova – both in the general education, where eight bilingual lyceums work, and in the university one, where there are six francophone channels.

„We discussed possible ways of strengthening these programmes through endowing education institutions with quality teaching materials, including digital ones, and by training teachers. I said that the French language is studied in 987 schools and lyceums from Moldova and that the interest in the French language, especially through the French Alliance’s networks, remained high,’’ Maia Sandu said.

For her part, the OIF Secretary General gave assurances that she would consider possibility to help Moldova in the reform of the vocational education, to get involved in the support of creative industries or to back the teaching of the French language for the Border Guards’ Troops.
