Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - The rate of young people aged between 15 and 29 years who do not study and do not work is of about 27 per cent in Moldova.
The secretary general of the Moldovan National Youth Council, Roman Banari, said that 27 per cent of all young persons with ages between 15 and 29 years neither study nor work. According to Banari, the official data provided by the National Statistics Bureau shows that this percentage is high as compared to the one in the neighbour countries.
„In Romania, a level of 20.9 per cent is recorded and in Ukraine, less than 18.7 per cent of the young people do not study and do not work. The Moldovan state has the highest rate of young people who neither study nor work in the region,’’ Banari noted.
Moldovan statisticians said that 32 per cent of the young people with no form of occupation represent young women and 23.2 per cent of men do not study and are not employed.
Estimations made by experts in economy show that the countries with a rate of young people who do not study and do not work higher than 20 per cent have losses exceeding 2 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product.
