Water supply system from central Moldova town to be improved with EU's support

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - Works of construction for a project financed by the European Union on improving the water and sewerage supply systems were launched in the central Calarasi town on 9 February. The project’s goal is to provide the local residents with qualitative public utilities.   

„The European Union continues to back the implementation of measures of supply with water and sewerage in Moldova, which contributes to the modernization of the infrastructure for the providing of water supply services to the country’s citizens. We are today in the Calarasi town, where the increase in the rate of residents’ connection and access to the quality drinking water and sewerage, with the European Union’s support, will improve the living standards of more than 7,000 citizens and will maintain their health, as well as the one of the next generations,’’ Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said at the launch event.     

For her part, Ambassador of Germany to Moldova Angela Ganninger said that ‘’during more years, the Calarasi town has been enjoying a close cooperation with Germany.’’ ‘’Germany, along with EU, contributed to the improvement of the living standards of Moldova’s citizens and the supply with water is a key sector in this respect. The modern infrastructure of drinking water supply is of huge importance; yet, it has its price too. Namely for this reason, the citizens have the mission to connect themselves to these systems, to pay the tariffs due to cover the costs and quite carefully manage the drinking water resources,’’ Angela Ganninger said.   

The overall value of the project, Improvement of services of water and sewerage supply in the Calarasi town, is of 1.72 million euros, of which 1.37 million euros is provided by EU and 353,000 euros represents the local contribution. About 1,500 residents from the Calarasi town will benefit from drinking water supply services and about 5,700 – from sewerage services.  

The project, Improvement of services of water and sewerage supply in the Calarasi town, is financed by the European Union.  It is implemented in cooperation with the project, Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova, managed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova), in partnership with the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry and is financially backed by the German government.
