Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi conveyed a message today on International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The message says:
"Today we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It is marked annually on 11 February following the initiative of the United Nations. It aims to highlight the role and contribution of women in the development of society, through science, technology and innovation.
Celebrating this day is an opportunity to promote the full and equitable access of women and girls to the scientific and economic development of the country. It is also an opportunity to educate society on the role of research, to mobilize political will and resources to solve the pressing problems of society and to celebrate and use achievements in the field.
The presence of women in science ensures compliance with the principle of equity in society. I am glad to note that currently in the Republic of Moldova, the share of women engaged in scientific research and development is about 65%, and the share of young women engaged in higher doctoral studies and oriented to scientific careers is 54%.
At the same time, this year 37 women researchers from the country were awarded the Government Diploma as a sign of high recognition and appreciation of the remarkable results in the development of science and innovation.
We honor and encourage women and girls in scientific careers, and we are committed to developing policies and initiatives to this end, including facilitating the promotion of women as leaders of scientific institutions.
On behalf of the government and on my own behalf, thank you for your dedication, creativity, ingenuity and significant contribution to the development of society. We still wish you new progress and appreciation of results. ”
