Air passenger transport decreases by 75 per cent in Moldova in 2020

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) informs that 5.2 million passengers were carried by public transport in December 2020, which is by 38.8 per cent less against the same period of 2019.
According to statisticians, the number of passengers carried decreased in the air transport (-62.4 per cent) and road transport (-39 per cent) and increased in the river transport (+95.4 per cent) and the railway one (+1.9 per cent).
In 2020, 55.6 million passengers were carried by the public transport, by 46.1 per vent less than in 2019.
On the concerned period, the road passenger transport further had the highest share – 97.6 per cent of all transport; the railway transport and the air one had 1.3 per vent and 0.7 per cent, respectively.
The air passenger transport diminished (-75.6 per cent) in 2020 against the year before, the road one (-45.8 per cent) and railway transport (-38 per cent).
In 2020, 54.2 million passengers were carried by buses, which is by 45.8 per cent less against 2019. The share of passengers carried by buses and mini-buses of the total number of passengers transported in the Chisinau city stood at 53.6 per cent, in the Centru development region – 20.3 per cent, North region – 15.2 per cent, South region – 8.6 per cent and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – 2.3 per cent.
