New file given final touches in Moldova to be registered in UNESCO's Representative List

Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/ -The Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) of Moldova has submitted to Romania’s Culture Ministry the form signed and the documents related to the registration of the transnational file, Art of the National Shirt – element of cultural identity in Romania and Moldova, in order to be registered in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

According to MECC, during 2019-2021, the national working groups from Moldova and Romania carried out works of research, documentation, inventorying of the element of the national shirt, including in rural and urban settlements, made the promotion film, in line with the UNESCO standards, as well as the promotion booklet.   

Through the registration of the national shirt in the UNESCO Representative List, Moldova assumes the commitment to ensure the viability of the element through the working out of policies nationally and locally, as well as to promote this element of national costume by the organization of national and international events.   

Moldova and Romania have already promoted three transnational files in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: Singing carols in groups of men (2013), Traditional techniques of manufacturing carpets (2016), Cultural practices associated to 1 March day (2017).
