Moldovan head of state meets President of Italian Senate

Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met President of the Italian Senate Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, on the first day of her visit to Rome, the presidential press service has reported.
„We had a constructive and useful discussion, during which we referred to concrete ways of strengthening the cooperation between our countries in the political, economic, social and cultural sectors. I am confident that we can develop many joint programmes, in diverse fields, ‘’ Maia Sandu said.
In this respect, the head of state stressed the importance of the Moldovan Diaspora in Italy for the bilateral relation between the two countries. ‘’As we have here the biggest community of Moldovans from the European Union’s area, including a lot of young people, I underlined the importance of working out programmes due to encourage as many as possible of our fellow countrymen to return home, to Moldova,’’ the Moldovan president noted.
The head of state reiterated that, for this, concrete actions were needed, through which the innovating and entrepreneurial spirit should be turned to good account, which is so necessary for Moldova’s economy. ‘’In this context, I said that Italy’s experience to back and develop the sector of small- and medium-sized enterprises would help us a lot, so that they become stronger and more competitive on the world market,’’ Maia Sandu added.
Moldova’s President is on an official visit to Rome, at an invitation by the Italian President.
