Two young people from Moldova detained after purloining over 1 million lei from cards

Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - Policemen and prosecutors have de-structured a crime ring specialized in the purloining of financial means from citizens’ bank cards.  Two young people were detained.    

According to the police, the suspects were calling citizens through the Viber application, saying that they were bank’s employees and, under the pretext of protecting them from fraud, they were asking them to dictate the data and codes at phone. Subsequently, the money was purloined and transferred to another accounts through the crypto-currency pocket books and was converted in the crypto-currencies Bitcoin and Litecoin.  

The suspects, with ages between 25 and 30 years, during 2020 year and so far have committed over 40 extractions from bank accounts of more people; the damage inflicted to the aggrieved parties amounts to about one million lei.   

It was also established the coordinators of these offences are detained in Moldova’s penitentiaries and presently measures are undertaken against them. Under the criminal legislation, if found guilty, the crime ring’s members run the risk of being imprisoned for 8-15 years.
