President of EU Council says European Union to back Moldova's ambitious agenda

Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today morning had a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel, during an official visit to Brussels on 27-28 September, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

Natalia Gavrilita thanked the high-ranking European official for the support the European Council was providing to Moldova. She noted that this backing was extremely important for strengthening the democratic processes, reforming the justice and the state’s institutions, economic re-launch and creating jobs, enhancing the citizens’ well-being. The two officials also exchanged opinions on the priorities for the Eastern Partnership’s Summit, due in next December.     

Referring to the priorities of the government she leads, Natalia Gavrilita touched upon the justice reform, including the investigation of the bank fraud, management of the COVID-19 pandemic and the package of economic and social support needed for re-launching the economic growth.   

For his part, Charles Michel said that ‘’EU was open to further support Moldova and the agenda of ambitious reforms it is set to implement. Moldova is an important and priority partner for us.’’  

The PM expressed confidence that the present visit would lay the foundations for boosting the Moldova-European Union relations, so that, on the next period, the sides are able to advance the high-level dialogues on the security, justice and energy subjects. 

In the context, Natalia Gavrilita said that Moldova was interested in extending the cooperation ties, as well as in the further development of the national policies in accordance with the Association Agreement.
